Die "Nativity" groepies kan nie bestel word nie, die artikel wys hoe naby n klient en kunstenaar aanmekaar "groei". Marc en Marthe het ons al met vele kontrakte ondersteun en in die proses wou hy ook graag met klei speel. Dus hierdie baie spesiale verhouding wat ons so gereeld met kliente opbou word deur hierdie artikel uitgelig. Maar as hy terug is in SA sal ek dit noem dat hy moontlik n eerste klient het! Ek dink hy sal sommer baie in sy noppies wees, hy was so trots op hierdie stukkie werk, Vader Claerhout ook, wat die geskenk ontvang het n paar weke voor sy afsterwe. Die onskuld en teerheid waarmee hierdie werk gedoen is, is so eerlik en opreg, kwaliteite wat deesdae maar skaars is in ons aledaagse omgang met medemense. So when we were shown the tiles pictured above, it seemed the ideal choice. One never knows quite what the end result will be, but all of us were confident, and excited, about the potential. The neutral colour was chosen so as not to detract from the stained glass windows, and as the photo's show, we all agreed it was the perfect choice. The tiler was a little, can we say, anxious, when first shown the uneven, 'buckled' looking tiles, but he took a deep breath, drew on all of his sixty years of experience, and was able to look on his finished product with pride. The support from Gerrit and Gillian, from the choosing of the tiles to the advice on grout colour to the custom designing and making of the tiles to be placed around the oval window was very assuring. So, from start to finish, their experience was invaluable. And an added bonus is having friends leave their unique fingerprint on our home.
