The Kwasa - Kwasa story, … Part 1
Two individuals, Simthembile cQushuza and Goodman Ngalimani, both participated in a training project consisting of a group of disadvantage jobless youngsters with the main aim of empowering them with knowledge and craftsmanship to earn a future income. Needless to say, the project’s outcome was negative and delivered no measurable results.

During their training period the teachers gave them a project, with the aim for them to visit studios and assess first hand from the owners what is involved in running a ceramic studio. These two, being impressed with our studio, Southern Art Ceramics, approached me on several occasions, hungry for opportunity, … they showed a tenacity that could not be ignored, and this convinced me to stand up and try to make a difference where others have failed. These two young men, eager to become ceramic artists, will be the first two to participate in this project at Kwaza Kwaza. I endeavor to afford them the opportunity to discover and realize their dreams, and I think that you will agree that creativity has the possibility of healing and bonding individuals over a cross spectrum of cultures. I believe that proactive creative workshops can provide light where there is darkness because creation is such, touch and be touched.
