Christine Suzman, an accomplished ceramic sculptor, walked into our studio over the festive season asking for assistance to fire her Nguni cattle. Christine is gentle and have an aura of dreaminess around her and this very introspective mood can clearly be felt in her tender sculptures.

These cattle embodies our africanness in such a proud majestic way, I see endurance even a look of forgiveness, the cattle seem to be calm, gentle and at peace with their character. Do you relate to this icon?
For any inquiries be so kind to contact us and we shall forward her contact information in London.
I plan to add information of other ceramic artists to our website soon. We prefer to profile artists where their sole income is derived from their passion for ceramics, but also and very importantly that they manage their career for profit. The reason being that Southern Art wish to create a platform where art patrons can view work created by professionals being viable in a business environment . We hope to empower individuals to pay fair prices for work and as such create a viable environment for talented youth to create a future as ceramic artists.

Yes, more African than this will be difficult to find. These sculptures almost came as a shock and I’m not ashamed to say it brought tears to my eyes because it made me so aware again of my own africanness - if there is such a word. The pureness and strength it radiates together with the texture and colouring is proof that a great South African artist was at work here. This made such an impact on me that I am now a lifelong fan of Cristine Suzman.
Also your plan to add more info about young promising ceramic artists in your newsletters is an exellent one, Gerrit.

These cattle do make one to commit emotionally, and this is what art is all about, a relationship with known and unknown parameters will be created when viewing these sculptures. I can not remember seeing these animals in the live before, but I do know now that they do represent our Africanness in the purest way. These animals are what they are, honest beings, uncorrupted and belonging to their land of birth!
As a symbol I see them as being positive, a living being that endured and persevered, I do not experience them in the negative, with sadness watching the product of our earth marching of to Australia….

Hallo Hanni
Thank you for the compliments.
I do plan something special with Trudi’s panel…so be patient, as I wish to combine it with a new project that will be for sale at the same time!
The new panel will be a landscape with lots of RED!, and this will contrast well with the greens in Trudi’s panel!
Hope to hear from you more often!
Gerrit

Really have enjoyed your website. There is such a vibrancy about the work. I would really like to see it ‘in the flesh’. Your encouragement is fantastic. Keep it up. Catherine

Met die eerste blik hiervan het ek dadelik terug verlang na my kinderjare. Hierdie beeste is so eg, hoewel so fyn. Wat my veral opval is hul natuurlike kenmerkende gesigs-uitdrukkings en postuur wat onbeskryfbare emosies te voorskyn bring. Pragtig!

Uitstekende web-werf Gerrit ! Jou positiewe entoesiasme is ‘n inspirasie.

Gerrit
