At a lecture last week by an art curator of a very prominent art collection it was mentioned that skill without imagination creates craft objects like pottery and woven baskets but that imagination without skill results in modern art! What do you think?
Birdwatcher was sold last week, but to replace it I made Skydiver!
It took me a long time to complete, she look so simple, but my impulsive behavior when applying color and working with awkward ceramic pencils resulted in five other pieces that have to be reworked.

No, Gerrit!
No ways does she look “so simple”! With this as a result of your impulsive behaviour I cannot wait to see the other 5 pieces you have to rework. I love the almost astonished look in her eyes. It gave MY imagination wings - like I was whirling through the stratosphere! Hurry up with the other 5. How one can create a specific look - like that in your “skydivers” eyes - on a piece of clay, no matter the tools you used - is beyond me. Sim and Goodmans platters spoke to me but she grabbed me with those eyes!
To comment on the art curators statement. Modern art is art and NO art is art without a combination of skill and imagination. Not that it is all that important as long as whatever one looks for in an object of art, speaks to the heart.
