New Delft Layouts For A Ceramic Tile Mural Behind An AGA Stove In An Old Duch Homestead.

Posted under Kitchens Tiles & Uncategorized

Gillian Greer, our graphic designer completed 10 different options for this client’s authentic farm-style kitchen. All these options have it’s own cost attached due to the different time allocation for each. The borders are extremely labour intensive and ad substantially to the quote.

Any of the above will enhance an old traditional farm kitchen. The AGA stove will compliment the handmade panel and the quarry tile floors and yellow wood beams will create the ambiance for many festive encounters in and around this kitchen with its Aga stove and handmade Delft style tiles.

Many moons ago I formed several impulsive platters, all of them rectangular with some organic overtones decorated with dots. I was quite pleased with the end result, and sold most of the platters.

This Cream Aga Stove Pair Perfectly With These Customized Handmade Tiles!

Posted under Kitchens Tiles & Uncategorized

With the superb match of the charcoal grey and the black Lacanche stove in the Top Billing feature I searched for a few other matches of where the stove and tiles match seamlessly.

Matching the colour of handmade tiles with your Aga, Lacanche, Falcon or other stoves is a most  important decision and best left in the capable and experienced hands of Southern Art Ceramic design.

sherrington-aga-img_4375.jpg

This kitchen with a magnificent AGA stove attracts constant attention in many magazines like SA Home Owner and South African Decor & Design mini buyers guide. The South African Decor and Design mini buyers guide add with a similar image of this cream Aga stove and matching handmade tiles resulted in a unprecedented response and a flood of inquiries.

South African  Home Owner used the above kitchen in their December 2008 issue featuring classic designs!

We were not surprised, are you?

This Entrance With A Magnificant Handmade Tile Panel With Proteas Will Never Be The Same Again!

Posted under Ceramic art Tiles & Uncategorized

Mrs Elwes, a passionate collector of our art work, had this ceramic tile panel installed in a entrance with a skylight. The sun is far to intense to hang any conventional painting in this spot and a ceramic tile panel was one of the few options.

img_7853.jpg

This wall being exposed to strong afternoon sun was neglected till now, but wow what a difference does this new art panel make!

This close up display some of the soft velvety textures of these proteas, enticing one to touch them and imaging the real flower under your fingertips!

The History Of The Van Louw Family Hand Painted In A Delft Style Like You Have Never Seen Before!

Posted under Ceramic art Tiles & Kitchens Tiles & Recently Sold & Uncategorized

It is invigorating to work and share with a couple this energetic and spirited.Their positive outlook bonds well with our creative spirit and their generous feedback and compliments drive us forth in this awesome country of ours!

This type of ceramic tile project belies it simplicity, to research the theme and fit it to the personalities took weeks of research, more to produce and reproduce, and even more to hand paint and repaint!  Soon we will open certain web pages by invitation only, these pages will show the time line and all that goes right and wrong during the run up to the deadline. These pages will give the clients some insight into the complexities and curve ball thrown at us during the design and production of ceramic clayart like these.

img_7827.jpg

The panel above showcase Christa’s beloved Hantam with the Calvinia mountains in the background. The images portray many of her nostalgic memories, her grandparents that were “karrietjies mense”, that is the sheep shearers that travel from farm to farm, the adults dancing, the clothing of a bygone year, the games the kids used to play, etc….

Blue Le Creuset pots were used to accentuate the blues in the panels, and the Le Creuset kettle invites friends to linger longer. The Smeg stoves and Braai’s stainless steel surfaces compliment the blues and adds just enough of a contemporary look. The bulky blue Smeg fridges adds drama with its larger surfaces of blue as well as something quirky. The blues mirror the large expances of sky outside and this all add to the positive mood around this environment!

img_7828.jpg

This is where Trevor grew up, Steynsburg, with “Teebus and Koffiebus”in the background.

The dates they left were incorporated on the number plates of the carts and  painted on tiles used at a fireplace.

Bright red were used to extemporize some  tiles used randomly around the kitchen.

The website will be updated in the nearfuture with the full portfoilio of the kitchen seen before and afterwards, fresh, new and revived!

Call us now to revive your kitchen or patio!

Minky Charcoal Greys and White Handmade Tiles For a Stunning Floor In a Cape Town Colonial Mansion.

Posted under Kitchens Tiles & Uncategorized

I am in the process developing new mat colours to be used in a floor mixed with some jewel like glassy green tiles. A checkerboard pattern with 100 x 100mm mat tiles and a border with a Mediterranean feel using 150 x 50mm tiles will be used for this bathroom’s floor tiles.

img_7817.jpg

In the image you can view different tiles, some extruded, others moulded and some pressed. Presently I am doing the R&D to comply with this floor tile brief with the aim of creating a slight breakup of colour in this very stiff mat glazes.

These magnificent floor tiles used in combination with modern bathroom appliances will be  a perfect match to feature and compliment the Contemporary Colonial design elements.
