Do any of these faces stir emotions of recognition, humor, sadness, questions, etc.?

These faces are cut, carved and worked and reworked, on and of over several months till I feel that I have captured some essential emotion. I view these faces as you would, and wonder who the artist is, why did he do it, ?????

A Specially Designed Green Handmade Tile For a Kitchen Renovation In Sydney Australia.

Posted under Kitchens Tiles & Uncategorized

The Clarke’s provided us with the curtain fabric and asked us to develop this very special green glaze on a hand made tile.

clarke-fabric.jpg

We appreciate their efforts with sending the following images to view their new kitchen. Most of our work are couriered all over South Africa and the world and as such we have limited opportunities to photograph or view the final installations of our work.

Southern Art Ceramics produced the ceramic door knobs with a matching jewllike glaze to  “speak” to the tiles.

And is it not fantastic to receive compliments like this:

Dear Gerit
We finally got your tiles up in our kitchen and finished the cleaning up
yesterday. They look splendid coordinating beautifully with
the greenish granite and the curtains that they were designed to match.
The green knobs look great and needed the tiles to give them relevance.
We are delighted with the renovated kitchen and the tiles very much set
the tone and remind us of our happy days in Hermanus. We had a bit of a
problem with the tiler who used narrower grouting than had been agreed
but he seemed to know what he was doing a the end result has done
justice to your art. By using all the off-cuts he was just able to tile
to the top of the cooking wall but there was virtually not a scrap left.
Thank you for a beautiful product.
Judy will take photographs and also write but I thought it was time we
told you the job was completed. Best wishes David Clarke

If There Was a Dream Kitchen Then This Is The One, In Francshoek and With our Handmade Tiles!

Posted under Kitchens Tiles & Uncategorized

Jonathan Barnes of Bauhaus Designs created and designed this awesome kitchen. The attention to detail is astounding to say the least.

He commissioned us to manufacture the tiles for the table structure in front of the rounded window. The tiles were mitered at the edges to ensure neat edges without to a wide grout gap.

These images give you some idea of this perfect kitchen!

Dear Gerrit,

Please see attached file. This is a drawing of the tile layout as well as quanitities required. Our client likes the cream tile with the pattern, however we need all the tiles to be 96mm to 98mm square - can you achieve this with handmade tiles, or do the sizes vary too much? If so, a slip clay tile with the same pattern & colour would be fine, but with no sharp edges on the top. Please wrap the glazing over the top - around the edges.

The green tile we sent was just to show you the size we require for these cream tiles, as well as a possible example of the texture for our client who wants the mother of pearl tiles.

Regards,

Monique

A Ceramic House Name in Fernkloof Estate on Hermanus Golf Course is a Must!

Posted under House Names & Numbers

Mr Sykes forwarded this atmospheric image showcasing the house name we designed and produced for him in the most splendid way!

For those who wish to know the meaning of Cachagua, all I can say is that it is a beach town near Santiago Chile where the client worked for a while.
